Course Structure and Resources
There are a variety of delivery options including employment based, correspondence and face to face dependent on your situation and availability. Phone and email support are available. All courses are competency based and all resources are supplied by METS.
Options for study
Option 1: Traineeships - you need to be employed within the Disability sector on a permanent basis (full time or part time) to undertake a Traineeship (other conditions apply) The course cost is subsidised by the Government for eligible participants although a compulsory enrolment fee applies (concessions and exemptions may be available)
You must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident (some visa’s are acceptable and other conditions apply) contact METS or your local apprenticeship centre for more information.
Option 2: Fee for Service (Self funded) – for those who are not eligible or simply do not wish to participate in a Traineeship, you can still complete the course as a Fee for Service learner. You can be employed by a Disability/Community Organisation as a permanent, casual or volunteer and you will need the co-operation of the service to comply with the practical components of the course. You can choose to start this course at any time throughout the year.
Learners may have attained knowledge and skills in the workplace and/or competencies in one or more units. RPL (recognition of prior learning) is available for each unit of competency based on relevant workplace experience, formal training or other expertise relative to the sector.
Duration of the course
Trainees - 24 months for a fulltime employee 36 months for a part time employee
Fee For Service (Self funded) – an enrolment period of 2 years will be given, extensions can be applied for however further enrolment fees will apply.
Fees & Charges
Trainees will need to have the full support of their employer for their training. METS will discuss responsibilities with your employer and then proceed to organise an Apprenticeship Centre to complete the necessary documents. METS will then begin the enrolment process.
Trainees classified as New Entrant will be charged an annual enrolment fee. NSW State Training Services have instructed RTO’s to collect this compulsory fee. Concessions and exemptions may apply.
Fee for Service learners must submit a completed enrolment form with the enrolment fee and purchase a minimum of 3 units to commence then you can choose to pay as you go or purchase clusters of units (maximum up to $1000) Call METS to discuss.
